Description

Structural Engineers perform specialized and complex engineering assignments requiring the use of judgment and initiative.
Also perform specialized structural plan reviews for building permit applications that include a full range of drawings, plans, calculations and specifications for the construction or alteration of commercial and/or residential structures to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations; serve as liaison between the City, contractors, consultants and representatives of utilities or other agencies, and work to develop plans in line with City goals.
The Structural Engineer is expected to deliver a high level of customer service to the public and to carry out their individual responsibilities with initiative, independence and creativity while exercising sound professional problem-solving skills.
A valid state driver's license may be required for certain assignments.


Requirements

Applicants must possess:
* Knowledge of principles of design and construction as required in current applicable codes, including earthquake regulations
* Knowledge of and skill in using a variety of computer programs to solve engineering problems
* Ability to manage difficult engineering related projects and resolve conflicts that arise between development goals and code requirements
* Ability to review and evaluate building construction documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and regulations
* Ability to communicate technical matters to non-technical individuals, including policy makers
* A Certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer
